Walk Well my Brother
Farley Mowat
"Fishing, for God's sake! What in Jesus' sweet name did she think she was going to catch in that lousy little pond?" (Mowat, 174)
...While the quote itself may not seem to connect to doubt the context does. In Walk Well my Brother Lavery refused to believe that Konala was of any use throughout the first half of the story. She'd do worthwhile things like cook a meal and then he'd refuse to eat it, standing firm in his belief that trusting her would be a mistake. "When Lavery descended from the plane with the compass in his hand his appetite woke with a rush at the sight and smell of roasting fish. But he did not go near the fire. Instead he retreated to the rocks where he had left his gear and dug out a can of beans. He gashed his thumb trying to open the can with his pocket knife." (Mowat, 174) Of course doubting her abilities really stalled their journey more than anything and resulted eventually in death...
